Styling- It's all in the Details!

I love to see a bookshelf come to life, with some simple styling.

A few tips for styling your book shelf at home. (No set rules really, just a few tips) :)

-Your books don't always need to be upright, lay them down. I also (sometimes) like to take off the paper covers to show their true hard back colors.

-You also don't JUST have to have books only. I like to use frames, boxes, objects, vases, anything pretty really to display as well.

-I also like to do groupings with my books to make a statement and then try to balance it using something different on the other side.

-Paint the inside of your bookcase.

-Lastly, if it's not pretty. You don't like it. Take it off!

Basically, Have Fun with it. Anything goes! :)

Nursury Love

I actually found this nursery because of it's great Roman Shades. I am loving Roman Shades for the lines and the way they draw out windows. So great! Anyway, the more I looked at this nursery I loved all the details in it. Like the facrics used as bedding and pillows. Love the X stool over the fur rug and the paintings, the way they pull all the colors together. It is so stunning. I just love everything! Starting with those Roman Shades!

The Mudroom and Holiday Decor

The Mudroom is finally finished. Woo. Hoo!! Just in time for the snow. I am still working on accessorizing the top shelf. But I do love the hooks. The little ones we ended up buying cheap ones at Home Depot and sprayed them black. Since I just couldn't find that one black hook in a somewhat decent price range. But I do love my DIY ones. :)

Still in LOVE with this window that lets all the natural light in. (don't mind the blue tape. we are painted Jim's office right now on the other side.) We painted the walls Heavy Goose by MS. I couldn't be more happy with this turn out. It is a lovely shade of Gray!

UPCLOSE DIY Hook

It's finally starting to look a lot like Christmas at our house. I love this time of year that we celebrate Christ's Birth. Here are a few decorations. :)

This is my new Side Table I picked up at Cost Plus. I love it. It is a perfect spot for the large nothing wall in the kitchen.

Mudroom Progress and a Sneak Peak!

Here is the BEFORE of the office. The brown door leads out to our garage and around the corner, are steps that lead to the kitchen. We actually have 2 stair ways to go up or down. (It's awesome) So we thought it was a perfect spot for a Mudroom!

First step. Dry wall and a Door. (It was Jim's idea to put in the window above the door so we don't loose all that natural light from our big window. Best Idea Ever)

Step 2. Staining the Concrete BLACK. Which I love but as you can see probably shouldn't of been the next step. ;) Oh well you live and learn, Right?!

I am in LOVE with my NEW MUDROOM. Jim (My, Oh So Talented Hubby) did such an amazing job. He is for Hire by the way. ;)

AND I also love the way my new Anthropologie hooks look with the stripes. Perfect match don't ya think?

BUT, We are not quite finished yet we have a LOT more painting and we still need to find the PERFECT Black Hook for the rest of it. I will be needing 10 hooks. So perfect I mean, price as well. :)It really is harder than you think, or maybe I'm just picky. Regardless it's on the to do list.

So I had Spray Painted this, while I was pregnant with Ethan. Or I should say Jim did. :) Anyway, I just wasn't that thrilled with the way it looked. So I began sanding it to possibly paint an orange or lighter gray. Well as I was doing it. I kinda liked this rustic vibe going on. So I kept going and showed it to my Husband and he confirmed it for me that it was REALLY COOL looking. So I went with it and WA LA!

I came across THIS article I just had to share. It compares Hobby Lobby decorative knobs to the expensive, but ever so lovely, Anthropolie decorative knobs.

and if you hurry into Hobby Lobby they are having an extra 40% off their knobs. I got mine for a $1.50! Cuz they all tend to run about $3.00 (so cheap for such a dramatic difference to furniture)

I got the left bottom corner, white ones (in the picture above) to lighten up the coffee table a bit. I also hung my magazine shelf's.

Also, last week we changed out the kitchen faucet.

Entryway Progress, My new Blake Pendant!

Black Gallery Frames: I already had from various stores. I filled them with Paris Post Cards (my hubby brought back from his business trip there) and De Vinci Sketches I printed off the computer.

The Blake Pendant is from Alice Lane. $625 ( normally $700 cuz I priced matched it with the one from CSN lighting. :)
I ordered an entyway rug also from Alice Lane but they sent me a brown one instead of the black graphic one I ordered. Such a bummer! But I will post that when it comes in the next 2 weeks.

Paint color: Driftwood Gray from Martha Stewart.

I still want to paint the orange on the railing black as well as the doors. But for now we are all painted out. :)

So tell me what do you think? Are you in Love with it as much as ME? It's fun to see things coming together that I have had in my head for so long. Seriously, forever ;)

Paint color is Driftwood Gray by Martha S. I LOVE IT!! It makes the room feel so open and airy feeling.

Also took our black book shelf and painted it White. (Which I have been wanting to do for a long time)

Remember those suitcases, I have been talking about. :) Here they are!! Those were a Birthday present from a local consignment store. Which I think totally pop in the room, as well as my rug I scored on Overstock for $200.

I still have lots to do like hang pictures, and buy some chairs for the space. But I wanted so bad to give you guys an update on the house and color palette. So, tell me what are your thoughts??

Holy cow. Moving is a pain. But I am finally in a Home to call our OWN!! Yay! We are painting, painting, and more painting. But it is coming along and I promise pics will come as soon as I find our camera battery charger. Ugh. Some where in a box. :) Go figure.

Meanwhile. This kitchen belongs to the lovely Courtney Cox. Are you not just drooling over those bar stools like me? I want just one, to go in my computer/pantry nook. (you'll see ;) ) I found one similar at Anthropologie but they are like $360, ouch! Can't do that to the hubby, especially after dropping some coin at Alice Lane for a light fixture and an entry rug. They are both so pretty and can't wait to get them. They said it's gonna be 2-4 weeks. But, I am sure it will be well worth the wait. (hopefully)

I stopped into a local Consignment store to check out this really cool, Jaws Shark Head, they had sitting outside to Lure people in. (It worked, it was so cool) It being $400 though, I had to look around at other things that maybe I could afford to buy. Well I found some really cool suitcases but, didn't want the price tag either. So showing some interest in them and then starting to leave, the lady says, "I will give all 3 to ya for $50 tax and all." Well to say the least. SOLD! I love my new stacking suitcases! Pics will come but for now here are some inspiration pics to hold you over.

P.S. We move this weekend, hopefully! YAY! We should close on our house this Friday. So excited, Busy but exciting!! :)

I am in love with this show. They are so cool. Totally Modern vintage style but I love it. Plus, I love that they have six kids living in NYC. In the one of the coolest Modern homes I have ever seen. You will have to watch the show to see some of there home and how they operate with that many kids. It truly is a fun show. It's on Monday's after another cool show Design Star. :)

Our New OLD House!

Life is good! We just purchased a house. FINALLY, after 10 years of renting and moving all over.( Starting in Orange County CA, Phx AZ, Palm Springs CA and finally Lehi, UT) We couldn't be more excited and anxious to get all moved in.

Side Note: Jim wanted me to mention we haven't closed on this house yet. :) but we will soon. Fingers crossed all goes well to the end.

We went house hunting several times. We debated building a new home and buying a lot were we live now. But it still just didn't quite feel right. We put an offer on a home just down the street from us, still didn't feel right. So we withdrew our offer and found out we were outbid on that foreclosure anyway. As you can imagine I was pretty down. Really bummed actually I wasn't finding anything to get my design juices flowing. I am so anxious to get my hands dirty in fun DIY home projects that I am about to burst. Not the crazy have to rip out everything inside, cost a fortune and start anew, but the fun cosmetic touches that make Big Statements, ya know?

Well this last weekend we went out looking at older existing homes and Long Story Short. We found it and I knew it right away. Instantly the moment I walked in the door, it just kept getting better and better. So without further ado here it is...

Our New Bilevel 1970's fixer upper. :) With it's amazing yard! It's biggest selling feature (It sits on almost a half acre of land)

To Build or Not To Build?

This is the floor plan/house we are trying to build. We found a lot we Love but I still have some doubts about building a new home. For instance I want certain upgrades. Are they going to put me over my budget? Plus all the expensive unexpected costs like a rock wall so we don't fall off the mountain :)

Decisions, Decisions. But I do love this floor plan. BETTER then any other house we looked at that has already been built. PLUS it is my favorite Craftsman style, Cape Cod looking house I have always wanted and LOVE. (They just don't have that many here in Utah, specifically where I want to live in Utah (in my price range))

But, on the flip side... if I were to buy an already existing home, It would be cheaper, BUT I too would want upgrades and that would have to come out of pocket. Not wrapped up in a pretty loan like a new house. And have a Honey Do list that was really, really long and probably really stressful for the hubby. ;) (Just cuz my hubby is truly talented and amazing, he can do and build anything, Seriously!)

Sorry, to vent! Most likely we will go through with this new build and I will love it. I am just scared. Really, Really Scared! Anyone else out there feel this way?? Or is it just me?

My New Rug... & a little bit of a dilimma

OK, So I love the color, texture, design, and of course the $200 price tag. (which by the way I got my rug from Overstock.com but they no longer carry it, I know I am just as bummed) BUT... The size I am kinda wishing it was a 8X10. It would fit the room better. I don't know what to do. So I am asking you! Do I just keep it for the price and design of it (possibly layer it with a jute rug when we buy a house and put wood floors in). Or do I return it to OS get my money back and be Cute RugLESS??

The hubby and I are trying to purchase a home that has been foreclosed on. And fingers crossed through a bidding war, that we will be the offer, the bank chooses. AND If so, I will be putting wood floors down. Can't decide on a color though. I have always wanted black wood forever but with this house and the coloring of it, it makes sense to choose a brown. Hmm. Sorry just thinking out loud! :)

My dream of decorating a house is finally within reach! :) It is very exciting to dream about at night while nursing Ethan!

My NEW Dining Room Table and Chairs

My chairs have FINALLY arrived after over a month of waiting. But well worth the wait!! I love them. I ordered these chairs directly from China and got a steal of a deal on them. Contact me via email if you are interested in Pricing on these chairs. The color on these chairs are Gunmetal. They did have a variety of colors to choose from though. (My email... meganedaly@yahoo.com)

My Awesome, Amazing, Hot, Husband built our Table. He mimicked the table from RH with pine wood and 4 different kinds of stain/sanding. A lot of sanding actually to get it to look this color. But again I couldn't be more happy with it's color and the way it turned out. We are still working on the legs. I still want them to have that fat chunky belly to them but it's a work in progress. :) Total Table cost $350 compared to RH $3000.

Talk about a Steal of a DEAL!! Holy Cow. My sis. Becky found this RH Table that is $3000.00 (yes you read that right, 3000) at Osmond Designs Outlet in Orem, Ut for only $1000. Who would of thought? I never would of checked there. But she did! She never gave up trying to find a cheaper version of this table. Amazing! Truly Amazing. It looks so good in her newly painted Gray Kitchen. A job well done!

Blake and Ethan's Bedroom Design

Baby Ethan is coming next month. I Can't wait!! Blake my 3 year old just moved from a queen size to a twin bed so I came up with this design board to complete the boys room. This week I will go get Blake's bedding at Ikea. Eventually I want bunk beds for the boys but till then... here we go.

I LOVE looking at other design blogs. There are some amazing, talented, thrifty people out there. I came across 2 blogs lately that need mentioning for these lovely designed rooms.

This is from A Perfect Gray. She purchased those pictures at an antique store. Don't they just make you swoon seeing them hung together and sigh when you see her collection of silver on that buffet. Gorgeous! Simply Gorgeous!!

This stunning bathroom is from Aubrey and Lindsay. I am in awe with all her DIY work for less and all the White and Gray combo, It is just stunning!!

Guess What's On My Bed??

Slowly but surely my (rental house) bedroom is coming along. I need the perfect throw pillow still and some type of picture/art above the bed. I am also wanting to either paint my matching nightstands or sell them and get some mismatch ones so it's not so matchy matchy. Plus of course something like a bench or settee at the end of the bed. But like I said slowly but surely. ;)

What do you think?? Do you love my new white bedding as much as I do?? I can't stop going in and staring at it. Smile

It might be a little tough trying to purchase the couch (I am just in love with it and having a hard time finding a replacement one). So for now I am focusing on the rug, accent table, and coffee table. So if my plan is effective I will be sporting a new Grey Fallon Rug in my Living Room this Feb. Wish me luck and Stay Tuned...

I went antique shopping with my sister in law on New Years Day. I have had my eye on it every time I went into this cute little local store and this time it was on sale for $35. You know what happened next...

It came home with me and I couldn't have been more stoked to hang it up in my living room. Take a look...
